Eskom Cracks The Whip And this in the face of huge power cuts starting on 1 April. And it's no April Fools joke. According to recently released Eskom reports, Klerksdorp will be without power on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 18:00 to 22:00 in “Week One' and from 18:00 to 22:00 on Thursdays in “Week Two”. “Week One” began on 1 April. Visit our website at www.yourcity.co.za and follow the links to download the latest Eskom load shedding schedule. Meanwhile, the seaside city of Durban is working on a deal with Eskom: almost 500 000 households could be excluded from load-shedding on condition that the city achieves a 10 percent electricity saving across the board. The man at the centre of the revolutionary initiative, Durban Electricity head Sandile Maphumulo, launched his massive saving campaign recently, saying it was up to consumers to make load shedding a thing of the past.
It's A Wonderful Country! Kroonstad born comedian David Kau makes a good living out of these events, taking the mickey out of everyone and everything, from Bafana Bafana to Jacob Zuma, and nothing is sacred. Race, religion, politics, all take a beating while his audience falls from their chairs with laughter. Those who missed this young mans show on 28 March, at the Rio Casino's Escapades Theatre, have good reason to be wandering around with long faces. With rampant rumours of upcoming four-hour long power cuts and more petrol price hikes, in addition to threats of an unstable economy and some dodgy politics, we could all really use a good laugh. While David Kau is good, very good, I'm afraid he did himself a disservice by inviting Tumi Morake to open the show for him. Tumi is an upcoming comedian and I'm sorry to say she totally stole the show. She had the audience screaming with laughter within seconds of appearing on stage and with her utterly shameless take on everything from Bio Slim to Steve Hofmeyer she had us in the palm of her hand. I'm sure I don't stand alone when I say Klerksdorp needs this woman. As for David, I'll be first in line should he ever show his face around the city again. Like he says, “It's a wonderful country, ladies and gentleman!” By Elizabeth Okes |
