Prime Circle must be one of Klerksdorp's most popular rock bands and this was surely proved at their concert at Zanzibar on 16 May. Opening bands Tolbos, from Klerksdorp, and Winterstasie, from Potch, got the audience into the mood of things, before Prime Circle took the crowd by storm. Prime Circle has played at most of the major local concerts, but the smaller stage at Zanzibar did nothing to hinder their energy. Phillip Rabie was there to catch all the action with his camera. Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom are playing host to not only the nine Vodacom Provincial League Champion teams competing in the Vodacom play-offs this week, but also to the runners-up in each of the nine streams of the regional Vodacom League. SAFA announced at the start of the season that, in their 10th anniversary of Vodacom's sponsorship of the competition, 18 clubs would participate in the play-offs for a place in the National First Division. The opening ceremony was held on 19 May, at the Banquet Hall in the city, and the 400 players and club officials from the nine provinces, and a number of former PSL soccer stars, including Bafana Bafana striker Jerry Sikhosana, Orlando Pirates darling Tebogo Moloi and Moroka Swallows Peter Matsitse, who are now coaches, attended the event. North West Premier Edna Molewa used the opening as a platform to point out that sports should be used as a forceful pillar of society to strengthen social cohesion and nation building, which also fights the emerging tendencies of xenophobia. “The sport fraternity in this regard should assert its role to ensure that it plays a role in helping young people participate in sport rather than taking part in these illegal activities” she added. City of Matlosana United FC opened the week's games with a hard fought game against Barberton City in an all- action match in which all three goals came in the last 12 minutes of the game, on 19 May, but it seems the excitement of the day, the crowd and the pressure of opening the play-offs on home ground got to the team and sadly they lost 2-1.
