All The Glitz And Glamour At The NW Bridal Extravaganza

The 3rd NW Bridal and Matric Farewell Show, hosted by St Andrews Guest House, was a huge success. The event,  held over 30 and 31 May, saw over 1 100 visitors passing through the gates and proved to be double the size of the 2007 show.  Top local designers were given the opportunity to showcase their latest bridal and Matric Farewell gowns at an exclusive fashion show, presented by Queen of the Universe winner Kaylen Hamel. Guests were entertained by rising star Nicola Habeck, who sang a variety of classic love songs.

Designers from Fair L'amour, Jean Nalida, The Girlz, Anha-K and DKN showcased their creations at the top class fashion show, while sixty five exhibitors laid out all the goods, from jewellery, makeup and hair styling to cakes,   invites and thank you cards. Jose, of Anha-K, was very pleased with the opportunity to   showcase his designs. He explained to  Yourcity that he had studied design in Klerksdorp and it was an honour  to be able present his designs to the city.

Nothing was left out and everything was beautifully presented.  Visitors came from far and wide to find the perfect gown, or accessory, for the most beautiful day of their lives, or the most important day of their Matric  Year.

Lida Wilkens from Lizmanney received first prize for the best exhibition, with second prize going to Shimila, third to Flower World and fourth to Elsa, from Orkney for her beautifully presented decor hire exhibition. Save fuel this way...

The petrol price just keeps climbing, but we still need to get to work and around town. Luckily there are many things you can do to save petrol, without resorting to riding a bicycle to work every day.

• Having regular maintenance checks. Studies have shown that a car with a poorly tuned engine will increase petrol consumption.
• Avoid warming up your car's engine when it is cold  half a minute after switching the engine on is sufficient time.
• Stopping and starting your car needlessly wastes petrol. Idling your car for a minute uses the same amount of fuel as starting your car.
• Don't purchase small amounts of petrol. The pump does not have enough time to really activate and the little bursts can short-change you in the amount of petrol you get for your money.
• Driving at the speed limit or less will dramatically lessen your petrol consumption. If at all possible avoid rush hour traffic  you waste petrol and cause more wear and tear to your car.

The more aware you are of the amount of petrol you use the more you can do to try to reduce your petrol costs. The petrol price just keeps climbing, but we still need to get to work and around town.
