THS “YSBEER” PROJECT
With the current economic recession, everybody is feeling the
pinch.
THS educators and learners, members of the Draughting School in
Klerksdorp and Overland employees all joined in the spirit of
giving, by contributing to the Ysbeer (Polar Bear) project held
annually at THS.
The money collected is reserved for learners in the school who
are unable, due to financial restraints, to pay school fees,
sport equipment, hostel accommodation etc.
In this way, THS plays a role in making the lives of those in
our school, a little easier.
To date an amount of R47 000 has been collected.
SHS rugby is kookwater!

Dynamite punches in ring
Mboyane has a promise to fulfill before embarking on a
continental and possible world excursion.
The hard-as-nails fighter intends making the first defence
against Cleutus Mbhele who he knocked out in the fourth of a
scheduled 10 rounds for the vacant Gauteng provincial title last
month.
Controversy surfaced after that bout. Mbhele's camp complained
that they used 10 instead of the eight ounce gloves Mboyane
used.
"We were not to blame for the discrepancy because the glove
steward should have noticed that," says Mboyane's trainer Gert
Strydom.
"Besides, Mbhele's camp should have also seen that they were
using wrong gloves.
"In any event we promised to give Mbhele the first shot at the
title in the event of Mboyane beating Nkqubela Gwazela for the
vacant national title. We intend living up to our promise."
After almost getting stopped in the first of a scheduled 12
rounds by the taller and more skilful Gwazela, Mboyane
sensationally knocked out the East Londoner in the 11th round in
the feature bout of Eyethu Promotions last Sunday.
With two shock defeats of hard-punching opponents considered
more experienced and talented - Mbhele was undefeated in 11
bouts going into the provincial title bout and Gwazela went into
the bout with 14 KOs from 17 victories - Strydom says promoters
are clamouring for Mboyane's signature.
"We are looking for a promoter with a proven record of taking
his in-house fighters beyond national and continental bouts.
"I still have to discuss the matter with my fighter. Although I
know who could deliver , I wouldn't like to take a unilateral
decision."
It is believed Strydom is eyeing award-winning Branco Milenkovic
and his partner Baby Jake Matlala's Branco Sports Productions (BSP).
Asked about such a possibility, Strydom says: "I wouldn't like
to take a pot shot at promoters. But let's face it
(newly-crowned IBF world welterweight
champion) Isaac Hlatshwayo would still be fighting for less
recognised titles had BSP not taken him under their wing.
"Branco also featured my other fighter Jasper Seroka (KO'd by
Mzonke Fana last week) in an eliminator for the IBF junior
lightweight title and was instrumental in Muvhuso Nedzanani
winning the vacant WBO junior bantamweight title."
Mboyane still has "rough edges" to correct before taking on
bigger fish, Strydom says.
"We need to tighten his defence and teach him to move out in
angles. "
