GOOD BYE FROM YOURCITY
YourCity was established in 2000 with the aim to create an
information and local news website in Klerksdorp. As time went
by, YourCity has transpired from one man's dream into a small
company.
Joubert and his team of 5 people published the first volume of
YourCity on 7 March 2003. He wanted to deliver a free newspaper
that was both informative about events happening in the
community as well as giving business people the opportunity to
advertise their products.
In 2000, Joubert was an energetic 22 year old young man with
stars in his eyes who lived the phrase “the sky is the limit”.
With his outgoing personality and the ability to persuade people
to believe in the prosperity of YourCity, he soon lined up
business people who were willing to support his endeavours by
placing ads in the newspaper (his bright smile, piercing blue
eyes and the fact that he was single, may have influenced his
numerous female admirers).
YourCity expanded in leaps and bounds by organising events,
poster printing, web designing, focusing on the real estate
market etc. They also expanded beyond the borders of Klerksdorp.
In October 2010 Joubert was diagnosed with a brain tumour. This
terrible monster could not dampen his love and enthusiasm for
his “baby”.
However, as time went by the cancer has taken its toll to such
an extent that Joubert is no longer able to fulfil all the
dreams he had for YourCity.
A decision has therefore been taken to close the doors with this
last volume.
Joubert has met many wonderful people during the 11 years he was
in business most of whom became very close friends of his. His
family would therefore like to take this opportunity on his
behalf, to thank his loyal staff, the community as well as
business people who supported Joubert throughout the years. The
love, interest and support since he became ill have been
overwhelming and are greatly appreciated.
