GOODBYE TO A KLERKSDORP
LEGEND
How does one say goodbye to such an important ingredient of
success within a community? Joubert Barnard and the Yourcity
team have been a fundamental part of the Matlosana/Klerksdorp
community for almost ten years and have never faltered in their
vision to bring good news to the community.
When Joubert stared Yourcity he vowed that it would never ever
carry hard or controversial news. Knowing that the success of
Yourcity or rather lack thereof would be determined by taking a
brave stance of “no sensationalism!” His vision was at all times
one of hope and community building, sunshine journalism was
always the order of the day. In ten years I can boldly say that
Yourcity remained a beacon of light, hope and goodness for our
city.
Often boosting the underdog with self-belief, always promoting
positive contributions of the community with buoyancy and never
taking the doom and gloom side of the story to the community.
The Yourcity light was always shining on the good and the
brighter side of life.
Joubert steered the Yourcity team through many trials and
tribulations and had to take many difficult decision to keep it
afloat and on the street.
He made a number of personal sacrifices to sustain Yourcity and
never wavered from his commitment of 'good news, no matter
what!”
The closing of such a significant encouraging community paper
will certainly create a gaping wound in the lives of Matlosana/Klerksdorp
residents. Yourcity will be missed and will always be remembered
for its approach to building a community.
Gracious thanks to Joubert and the Yourcity team for your
valuable loyalty and support given to the City of Matlosana over
the years. For always offering us a platform to market important
organisational issues. I know all of our Executive Mayors,
Municipal Managers and staff have always held Yourcity in high
regard and will surely second my sentiments. I would like to
wish Joubert and his family everything of the best as they
continue their battle against cancer. I reassure them that
Joubert is a symbol of hope and faith to the entire City of
Matlosana/Klerksdorp and he is in thousands of people's thoughts
and prayers. He is indeed a child of God. To the staff of
Yourcity, use this Yourcity stepping stone wisely and may it
open doors to a new season for you all. Let the Yourcity legacy
live on in your careers.
I say goodbye to Yourcity with tears in my eyes and a heavy
heart as I conclude. This is a sad day for the City of Matlosana/Klerksdorp.

Dis moeilik…
Met 'n swaar gemoed in ons harte en ongewensde trane in ons oe
se ons Totsiens… Dit is moeilik om afskeid te neem, maar dis
maklik om te weet dat ons Yourcity nooit sal vergeet!
Hierdie was 'n tyd in ons lewe wat ons vir altyd by ons sal dra…

Dankie vir die geleenthede wat jy ons gegun het, dankie vir dit
wat jy vir ons gedoen het!
Dankie vir jou glimlag in die kantoor, jou drukkies as die
moeilike tye sy oë gewys het en dankie dat jy, jy is!
Jy het altyd geweet as daar iets fout was.
Ons sal agter jou staan, deur dik en dun is ons nog steeds 'n
familie, met toe deure of nie…
God sal jou seën, jou dra en jou styf in sy palm hou. Sterkte
met jou paadjie vorentoe, ons sal voor jou loop en al die
klippies uit die pad uit skop!!
Jy was sonder twyfel nog net goed vir ons!
Baie dankie aan Klerksdorp, dankie aan al ons ondersteuners!
Sonder julle sou ons dit nie kon maak, sonder julle was ons nie
Yourcity nie!!
Sonder julle het ons geen inspirasie gehad nie.
“It was great working for you, you helped us…You gave us a
chance. You are the heart of Yourcity, the rock we could all
depend on!!”

My liewe Mr. Boss man!!!! Woorde gaan nie aan jou kan se wat ek
regtig wil nie maar ek wil die geleentheid vat om vir jou dankie
te se, DANKIE vir als wat jy vir my al gedoen het. Jy kon altyd
deur my sien en het altyd n oor geleen. Jou drukkies het my deur
baie gedra. Jy en Yourcity was goed vir my en ek gaan al die
glimlaggies, die “hoe lyk die sales” baie mis. Ek gaan JOU baie
mis!!!! Jy is n wonderlike mens. Ek dank Liewe Jesus elke dag
vir so goeie baas en vriend.
Jy sal altyd diep in my hart bly. Baie lief vir jou Mr. Boss.
