Volgens mnr. ABSA se 2008 Aardklop-veldtog is reeds vanaf vroeg September geïmplimenteer.

Mikes Kitchen held a fun day on 20 September for children to celebrate spring day. The day was full of entertainment with prizes up for grabs. Exciting prizes were given away consisting of a bicycle, skateboard and much much more. Ponies were also part of the event. The fire brigade made enjoyable water slides for the children to slide away their winter blues. The clowns took everyone on a ride with the Mike's train and they also painted the children's faces. Mikes kitchen made sure it was a day full of fun and laughter. DISTRICT PONDERS SOLAR ENERGY INVESTMENT District Executive Mayor Boitumelo Moloi recently visited a solar power street lights pilot project at one of the farms situated around the Buffelsdoorn area. This project is one of the unique methods government is trying out as a feasible way to supply street lighting whilst using the sun's natural energy to create electricity. According to Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Infrastructure director Felix Labuschagne, the project is still in its test phase after the installation of about five solar powered lights to the tune of R110 000. “This is a solution for power shortage in rural areas where it is difficult for the national electricity supplier to reach. These lights were installed at a cost of R22 000 each,” said Labuschagne. He also explained the move as a viable way to reduce installation, maintenance and electricity bill costs of high-mast lights. “If you look at the capital used for 50 high-mast lights installed across the district, the money involved thereof is enormous. So with this Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, the district should be able to provide more of these lights to other communities once the pilot phase is proved successful after evaluation.” The Executive Mayor said she hoped the pilot run would assist the municipality to observe and monitor the viability of the project before a decision on a full roll-out programme is made. She also appealed to the farm inhabitants to take care of the lights, as the pass motion for more installations will rely on the success of the trial run at their homestead. These lights form part of the government's plan to invest in alternative renewable energy sources to supplement electricity shortage, moreover in residential areas, public roads as well as private complexes during load-shedding and normal power conditions, offering users a higher sense of security and stability. Research by Electronic and Electrical Engineering Communities of Southern Africa (EESA) also says the solar-powered LED street lights can provide lighting for up to two-days in overcast conditions. This is possible through the power of a battery that is recharged by a flexible solar panel able to withstand the harshest weather conditions. The solar panel as well obviates the need for connection to the light's network with expensive copper cabling, trenching and transformers. Maintenance for these lights is reported reasonable, as they require full service after long intervals. This is made possible by a controller that monitors the current usage and prohibits the system from overcharging the battery. Other important considerations are that the LED bulbs use far less voltage volumes than regular electricity reliable bulbs, leaving them as the safest and cost effective options for quality energy supply services to disadvantaged communities.
Aardklop is die jaar vanaf 30 September 04 Oktober. www.aardklop.co.za Only a few more days before the finale of the M-Net reality show, High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa, which has taken the country by storm and the question on everybody's lips are: “Who will be the next Troy and Gabriella”? High School Musical, a popular Disney movie, followed a group of high school students on their summer holidays as they struggled through love, friendship and other teen matters - all to the backdrop of catchy songs and dance moves. So successful was the phenomenon that it will now take to the stage, and South Africa has the first opportunity to select its very own Troy and Gabriella, the male and female leads in the show, as it puts together its cast for the production. The reality show set out on its search to find the lead roles in June and, through public voting, the competition has now been whittled down to the final three potential: Troys - Lyle Volkwyn, 21, David Schlachter, 20, and Daniel Wessels, 17 - and three possible Gabriellas - Carmen Pretorius, 18, Danni Rau 17, and Tshepi Mashego, 18. 15 September 2008 Eighty of the country's best Boerewors makers battled it out on 13 September in the provincial rounds of this year's Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors competition. Those who will not have the opportunity to taste the supermarket group's new Championship Boerewors at Sun City will fortunately not have to wait too long to obtain it. From 15 October this product will be available under the 2008 Championship Boerewors label in the Meat Markets at Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores country-wide. NORTH WEST PROVINCE TO BENEFIT FROM ESKOM'S FREE ENERGY SAVERS ROLL-OUT Approximately 4.2 million CFL's or compact fluorescent lamps will be distributed to households in the Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Carletonville, Wolmaransstad, Schweizer Reneke, Bloemhof, Ottosdal, Delareyville, Kuruman, Lichtenburg, Coligny, Mmabatho, Stella, Taung, Vryburg, Ventersdorp, Zeerust from September to 30 November 2008. This programme will allow all electricity users to exchange their ordinary light globes for compact fluorescent lamps (CFL's). The implementation of this initiative forms an integral part of Eskom and the government's response to address the energy emergency situation in the country. The plan, which consists of three phases: the Stabilisation-, the Power Rationing- (which is currently being implemented) and the Power Conservation Phase, depends on the participation of all electricity users, to ensure a secure supply of electricity for the future. The CFL exchange program is part of Eskom's drive to assist homeowners on becoming more energy efficient. It is an important and practical way to reduce electricity consumption. CFL's lasts up to 6000 hours or more, which is six times longer than the incandescent light bulbs, and it uses approximately 20-25% energy and produce 90% less heat, while producing more light per watt. The CFL exchange is done in a manner which ensures households get enough opportunity to get their bulbs exchanged. Home owners will be visited by contractors walking from door to door replacing globes with CFL's free of charge. Alternatively home owners will be given the opportunity to exchange their old globes with CFL's at central points to be communicated in due course. Field distributors will also deliver leaflets to houses informing residents about the process. Homeowners will be asked to fill out a form to verify the receipt of the CFL's. An independent auditor may contact homeowners after the installation to ensure that the correct installation procedures have been followed. This is a practical and effective response to the current electricity situation. Eskom and Game Stores are also currently running a promotion whereby ordinary old globes can be swapped for a CFL's at a minimal cost. The promotion is limited to 10 globes per household until their stocks last.
